Ah, cravings, you maker and breaker of many dreams. Cravings suck. While they can’t be avoided entirely, you can stop the majority of them in their tracks by doing something that’s good for you anyway. Get enough sleep.

Most Americans get about 7 hours of sleep. If the average amount of sleep we’re getting as a country is lower than the standard 8 hours, we’re in trouble. When you come up short on sleep, your body starts craving junk. Your brain is telling you to ingest simple sugars and starches because it needs the quick energy, but most of us will over-do this and end up snacking on candies or carbs all day.

So try and get 8 hours. You’ll feel better and eat better.
