Sexbolt Sat: Call a “Sex Organ” What It Is

What is it with the cutesy names or the “anything but the real name” issues we have in our society? From news pieces headlined that a woman cut off her lovers “sex organ” to little girls being told to call their vaginas their “ta-tas,” or whatever cutesy name – it really makes me wonder how advanced we really are.

xchng_dictionaryFor the record, penis, testicles, vagina, breasts – heck, even clitoris – are all words that mean something about the human body. Hoo-hoos, boobies, weiner, hose, snake, front bum or whatever you want to make up, are not.

I work with seniors much of the time and I can understand their reluctance to name their body parts, but with younger people, it makes me really wonder. And what makes me wonder even more is what parents think they are doing for their children by not teaching them proper names for their body and not encouraging them to speak properly.

There are dangers to not allowing a child the knowledge of his or her body part names. If a child is ill and in hospital, a nurse may have to explain that they need to put in a urinary catheter or do a physical exam to check for abuse. If a child has been hurt in their “private parts,” it may be very difficult for them to describe what happened and to be understood.

I know not everyone is comfortable with their body – I get that. But what I don’t get is a 30 or 40 year old that can’t say “I have burning in my vagina.”
